Tripp Lite’s T050-001-USB-A voltage and current tester kit connects to a USB-A female port on a power source device, such as a laptop or charging station. Its other end connects to a USB-A cable and the device you wish to charge. Its LCD screen will inform you of both the source port’s voltage capacity and the amperage that the connected device is drawing so you can reliably monitor the charging of devices. Its black, pocket-size housing and immediate diagnostic reading make it a convenient tool to bring to conferences, tradeshows, hotels and airports for testing charging capabilities of available USB-A ports.
Once you plug the T050-001-USB-A’s male USB 3.1 Gen 1 connector into your source device, its LCD will indicate available voltage from that port. Upon connecting a device such as a smartphone or tablet to the tester’s USB-A female port, the LCD will indicate the charge in amps the connected device is drawing. It will switch back and forth between volts (orange LED) and amps (green LED) so you can ensure you have sufficient charging power at a given port.
Typical Applications
The T050-001-USB-A requires no software, no drivers and no external power connection to operate. It’s ready to plug in to your source computer out of the box. At just over 2 in. long, it fits conveniently in a pocket, purse or laptop bag, and won’t congest the work area around your computer. It’s ideal for quickly testing the charging abilities of each USB port on a docking station or USB hub, and can run diagnostics while simultaneously charging a device.
The T050-001-USB-A supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 technology but is backward compatible with ports and devices using older USB versions 3.0, 2.0 and 1.1 so you can find the right cable/port combination to properly charge your devices.
