Connect 10 Gb Equipment to 40 Gb Switches
Seamlessly integrate equipment of different speeds into a network infrastructure.

Future-Proof Network Infrastructure
Base-8 connectivity meets the needs of today’s 40 Gb switches and has the flexibility to accommodate future 100 Gb and 400 Gb networks. Tripp Lite breakout fiber patch panels are recommended for 40 Gb switches that support Base-8 connectivity, including popular models from Arista, Brocade, Cisco, Dell, HP and others.

Sized for 40 Gb Switches

A typical 40 Gb switch has 10 Gb devices connected to about half of its ports. Tripp Lite breakout fiber patch panels come in two sizes to accommodate different switch sizes.

  • 1U solutions are designed for 40 Gb switches with up to 36 ports.
  • 2U solutions have the density to accommodate larger switches.

Pre-Installed Breakout Cassettes for Hassle-Free Connections

Tripp Lite breakout fiber patch panels are pre-populated with multiple modular breakout cassettes. The back of each cassette has three hardwired 8-fiber MTP cables. The MTP cables connect to the QSFP+ transceivers on a 40 Gb switch. The front of each cassette has duplex LC ports for connection to the SFP+ ports on 10 Gb equipment. There’s no need for custom cables; you can make the 10 Gb connections with high-quality duplex LC cables that are readily available.

Built-In 8-Fiber MTP Cables for Quick Deployment

Each cassette has three built-in MTP cables, providing a plug-and-play solution that’s ready for immediate deployment. The MTP cables have Base-8 connectivity (eight fibers) for full fiber utilization in a 40 Gb network. Because the cables are hardwired into each cassette, there is a lower level of insertion loss compared to plugging separate cables into MTP ports. The MTP cables are two meters long to reduce cable congestion in the rack. Versions are available for OM4 multimode and singlemode fiber.

Structured Cable Management for Organization

A common problem with custom breakout cables is “spaghetti syndrome,” an unstructured tangle of cables that increases congestion and confusion in IT racks. Pre-assembled breakout fiber patch panels feature structured cabling to make installs, upgrades, changes, troubleshooting and repairs quicker and easier than using custom breakout cables.

The MTP cables are pre-labeled to map to the LC clusters on the front of each cassette. You’ll always know which 10 Gb device is connected to a particular port on the 40 Gb switch. A cable management and strain relief bracket helps keep the MTP cables in order. Additionally, the front panel folds down to reveal space for custom labeling of connections.
