Tripp Lite’s N234-MI-1005 Medical Ethernet Isolator meets IEC 60601-1 standards for use in patient-care areas. This in-line isolator features RJ45 connectors on each end, so it acts as a coupler, joining two Cat6 cables in a matter of seconds. While still allowing data to flow at Gigabit speeds, it protects patients, staff and sensitive medical equipment from harmful leakage currents that travel through copper-based Ethernet networks.
Typical Applications
Because this isolator meets IEC 60601-1 and EMC/IEC 60601-1-2 safety standards, it can be used in any area of any medical facility, including the area within six feet of a patient. Use it to connect a clinic’s network to a PC in an exam room or an EEG system attached to a patient. As long as you only use it to connect network components that meet IEEE 802.3 or IEE 802.3ab specifications, and do not connect telecom equipment, voltage supplies or similar devices, the possibilities are endless.
With no software, drivers or external power required, the N234-MI-1005 is completely plug-and-play. Simply connect a Cat6 cable to each end of it, then complete your connection on the other ends of the cables. Because the cables are removable, if one of them fails you can easily replace it without having to replace the isolator.
